We all know and understand the importance of God’s work and His message. We are commanded (Mark 16:15) to go out to the world and share.  With that prevalent love of God also comes those who seek rewards for themselves under the guise of spreading His word.  The book of Jude reminds us to stay steady in our faith, because there are those who are corrupting the message.  They use the beauty of God’s grace to underhandedly deceive His people and make a name for themselves. 2 Peter 2:1

False prophets are out in the world. The only way to not be swayed, distracte...

Two of our church’s own are committing their lives to each other this weekend.  In such a ceremonious event, like a wedding, people often become sentimental and want to only think of the romantic side of love.  How love is patient, love is kind, bears all things, and never fails (I Cor 13).  This unconditional love is exactly how we are to love each other, but is not exclusive to spouses, but for our relationships with everyone.  Our spouses not only need this love, we are commanded to give it.  They also need much more.

God gave us each other as he...

This past Sunday I was sitting in a quiet corner when our worship service ended. The sermon was inspiring, the song service was edifying, and the service was a great way to prepare me for another week in the world. But what happened after the service actually touched my heart more than that days worship. When the closing prayer was over and the quiet echos of ‘Amen’ died out, our members all adjusted their calm statures and became casual. No one hurried for the exits, no one snuck past chatting members to quietly move toward the foyer. My church family turned toward o...

Happy New Year!

All around us the world is celebrating the feeling of excitement and joy for the new year.  With a new beginning we have the ability to wipe clean from the old thing and start new.  in the New Year we can make better decisions, be better people, improve our lot.  This is true each morning God blesses us with.  So, while this feeling of excitement and newness is around us, let it inspire you each day to a better walk with God.

Isaiah 43:18-19

Sunday, we were reminded, how much God loves us.  So much so, He desires to hear from us anytime, anyplace on anything.  We are told to ask for things, petition, pray for others, pray for ourselves, be thankful, and praise God.  As Don gave example of the buddy system on outdoor adventures, I was reminded of a favorite children’s book which tells of a very important safety tip: Always stick with your buddy.  Jesus is the buddy we need to have with us every day.  Not only to help us through the dark parts of the day, but to share the joys.  In everything we do, everywh...

Sometimes the enormity of Jesus, Our Savior’s, actual humility and sacrifice is glossed over by the important and truthful statement, ‘He died for our sins.’  Sometimes we remember Him, Honor Him, spend the Lord’s Supper pondering Him, but we miss the widescreen picture.  Jesus chose to leave the comfort and the love of His Father, to come to Earth.  But more than that is, the One who had the power to make anything happen, subjected Himself to mere men and submitted to sin.  He who had no sin, became sin.  Jesus took on the blackness and death of our sin, and was sepa...

Singing

There are many examples of music in the Bible. Music was used during entertainment, celebration, coronations and mourning.  It was used to praise God and to thank God. However, all these examples of using musical instruments are in the Old Testament.  New Christian church came together often to worship God and the writers have offered to us how and how often they did worship God. As with all parts of our Christian life, we need to look to the Bible for instruction and guidance.

We are told to sing and make melody in our hearts (Eph 5:19).  This is mor...

We do not need any other source than the Bible.  It was given to us, and is sufficient for us.  When reading commentaries, study guides, or other educational books about the Bible, remember they were written by man.  Many times those tools will be helpful in understanding passages or give good insight into a verse.  Often times it can be easy to put too much of man's ideas into a book and not rely on what the Bible is telling us.  So read those books, pamphlets, or articles with a bit of prayer to be sure you are receiving the truth.  And always use the Bible as your...

With so many worship options available any day of the week, does it really matter what church I go to? Simple answer is YES! If it did not matter what you believe in, then there would be no reason to study the Bible and any church would be fine. However, the Word of God is the standard we are to follow, for all are inspired by God and chosen by the Spirit. (2 Tim 3:16-17, 1 Cor 2:9-13). So what the Bible tells us, is what we are to do. And as we find in Ephesians 4, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, there is a right way to follow God.  We also have many examp...
